Polish New Year’s Eve – Sylwester
People in Poland celebrate New Year’s Eve like most countries around the world do, they get staggeringly drunk.
It’s called Sylwester as each day in the Polish calender is devoted to a saint. Saint Slywester, a bishop of Rome who died in year 335, happened to be a patron of the last day in a year therefore his name is commonly used as a name of this day.
There was also a central celebration of Sylvester in Congress Hall (Sala Kongresowa) of Polish Parliament where the highest dignitaries of Polish communistic party were seen dancing with their wives. In the contrary to Christmas, which was rather avoided because of its religious connotations by communistic leaders, Sylvester was celebrated very much! In the main evening TV news we could see our main party leader to wish us Happy New Year.
The TV program was usually quite interesting, with many concerts, balls broadcasted live, interesting movies (also from Western Europe and the USA) etc.
At the very midnight the most popular television speakers were taking part in a ceremony of opening the bottle of champagne and wishing each other and all of us a happy New Year (we had just one later two TV programs in that time, so you could not miss it). The speakers were usually sitting while announcing the program, this was the only time when they had to stand. It just happened that the most popular TV speaker, Jan Suzin, was a very tall man and the most popular TV speaker, Edyta Wojtczak, was a petite woman. So, seeing them to greet each other was interesting since they had such a different size.

Nasza Klasa – Sexy Kobiety
I’ve been spending more and more time on www Nasza Klasa pl, I prefer the format over other sites like Facebook and the now aging Myspace.
One thing I’ve noticed is that Polish girls all seem to have big boobs, something I will be researching in greater detail for another post.
So apart from searching Nasza-Klasa for sexy kobiety with big tits what else have I been doing on the site? Well, I’ve been making a video of how to register on Nasza Klasa so those without a huge knowledge in Polish can create a profile.
Look out for this in the next few days, in the meantime… enjoy a few girls from my Nasza Klasa friends.

Tymbark – Ring Pull Messages
Tymbark juices are now available in England, they’ve even launched an advertising campain aimed at Poles living in London.
They’ve even changed the messages on the ring pull into English. This was bought near Canary Wharf, the hub of UK banking. The clever marketing folks at Tymbark seem to be aiming the message directly to those in the area affected by the credit crunch.

Polish Architecture – Poznan Town Hall
First documented in 1310 Poznan’s town hall was built during the reign of Waclaw II Czeski. It’s currenently The Poznan Museum of History and The National Museum of Poznan.
The gothic town hall that preceded it on this site burnt down in 1536 and was replaced with the present structure designed by Italian architect Giovanni Battista Quadro.
On the first floor is the Renaissance Hall, richly decorated with astral, grotesques and plant themes. The Ratusz burnt down during World War II and reubuilt soon after.

Polish Christmas – Carp in the bath
Christmas rolls around yet again so it’s time to fill up the bath in preperation for a fat carp or two. I’m all for fresh food but I think the way carp are sold and stored is not very nice. Wandering the streets of Poland at this time of year you are liable to see an aquarium tank or large plastic container stuffed full of carp.
I’m not a huge fan of carp, it tastes a bit too earthy for me but like the English and their brussel sprouts you eat it because it’s Christmas, it’s tradition and you don’t want to upset Babcia.
